Upload Your LogFrequently Asked Questions
Do I need to install HWiNFO or can I use the portable version?
Both work. The portable version is easier — just extract the ZIP and run HWiNFO64.exe. No installation needed, and it won't leave anything on your system.
Why do I need to run HWiNFO as administrator?
Administrator access lets HWiNFO read all hardware sensors, including CPU/GPU temperatures, power draw, and throttling flags. Without it, some critical sensors may be hidden or show incorrect values.
What does 'Sensors-only' mode do?
Sensors-only mode skips the full hardware scan and jumps straight to real-time sensor monitoring. It loads faster and uses less resources — exactly what you need for gaming logging.
What polling period should I use?
2000ms (2 seconds) is recommended for most gaming sessions. It captures enough detail without creating oversized files. For more detailed analysis, use 500ms–1000ms, but expect larger CSV files.
How long should I record while gaming?
10–15 minutes is ideal. Make sure to play during the moments when stuttering usually happens — the same map, game mode, or scenario where you notice FPS drops.
My CSV file is very large. Is that normal?
Yes, especially with fast polling (500ms) or long sessions. SmoothFPS automatically trims files that exceed the upload limit, keeping the most useful data. You can also use 2000ms polling to reduce file size.
Can HWiNFO cause stuttering while logging?
Rarely, but it can happen if ASUS EC sensors or SMART disk sensors are enabled. Disable these in HWiNFO settings if you notice new stuttering while logging.
What file format should I save the log as?
Always save as CSV (Comma Separated Values). This is the format SmoothFPS expects for analysis. Make sure the file type dropdown says 'Comma Delimited File (*.CSV)' when saving.
