Clear Standby Memory List
Windows uses standby memory to cache data it thinks you might need again soon. On some systems (especially with 8-16 GB RAM) Windows can let the standby list grow too large and only clear it when absolutely necessary. When that happens during a game, Windows may suddenly free a big chunk of memory, causing FPS stuttering, micro-freezes, hitching, and frametime spikes. ISLC automatically monitors RAM and clears the standby list when free memory gets too low.
This solution is safe and can be easily reversed if needed.
0 of 7 steps done
- Download ISLC: Search Google for Intelligent Standby List Cleaner ISLC and download from a trusted source (preferably the developer's official site)
- Run ISLC: If the file is in a .zip, extract it first. Run ISLC.exe and allow it to run as Administrator
- Set 'Free memory is lower than' to 1024 MB - This means if free RAM drops below 1 GB, ISLC will trigger a cleanup
- Set 'The list size is at least' to 1024 MB - This means if the standby list reaches 1 GB or more, it becomes eligible to be cleared
- Click 'Start' inside ISLC - It will now run in the background and automatically clear the standby list when conditions are met
- (Optional) Enable 'Start ISLC minimized' and 'Auto-start monitoring' to run automatically every time you boot Windows
- Launch your game and test if FPS stuttering, micro-freezes, or random spikes have improved
This tweak mainly helps systems where stuttering is related to RAM and standby memory behavior. It won't fix every performance issue, but it's a popular and easy optimization to try.
