Use Ultimate Performance Power Plan
Windows includes a special (often hidden) power plan called Ultimate Performance. It's designed to reduce power-saving behaviors that can cause CPU throttling, slower boost response, or inconsistent performance—especially during demanding tasks like gaming. Enabling this plan can keep CPU clocks more consistent under load, improve responsiveness, and stabilize performance in CPU-heavy games.
This solution is safe and can be easily reversed if needed.
0 of 7 steps done
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator: Press Start, type cmd, right-click and choose Run as administrator
- Add the hidden plan: Copy/paste this command and press Enter: powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61
- If it worked, Windows will return a GUID (that's normal)
- Select the plan: Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options
- Choose Ultimate Performance from the list
- Restart Windows (recommended), then test your game to see if performance stability improved
- To undo: Go back to Power Options and select Balanced or your previous plan
On laptops, this plan is often hidden and may increase heat, fan noise, and battery drain - best used while plugged in. If you use vendor performance modes (Armoury Crate/MSI Center/Lenovo Vantage), compare results as sometimes those perform better.
