Disable Windows Game Mode

Windows includes Game Mode that is supposed to improve gaming performance by prioritizing the game and limiting background activity. However, in some games it can actually cause FPS stuttering, frame drops, or input lag because of how it manages system resources and interacts with overlays and background services. Disabling it can reduce random stutters, make frame times more stable, and improve overall smoothness.

This solution is safe and can be easily reversed if needed.
0 of 7 steps done
  1. METHOD 1 (Recommended): Open Windows Settings by pressing Win + I
  2. Go to Gaming section, then click Game Mode
  3. Turn OFF the toggle for Game Mode
  4. METHOD 2 (Alternative): Press Win + G to open Xbox Game Bar, click Settings (gear icon), and turn off Game Mode if available
  5. ALSO RECOMMENDED: In Windows Settings > Gaming > Xbox Game Bar - Turn OFF the toggle to disable Game Bar
  6. In Gaming > Captures section - Turn OFF background recording options like 'Record in the background while I'm playing a game'
  7. Restart your game and see if FPS stuttering or random micro-freezes have improved

On some Windows versions, Game Mode is mainly controlled from the Settings app. Always make sure it's disabled there for best results.
